Frequently Asked Questions About Vanguard Admissions
1. How do I get more information about Vanguard?
A. First, thank you for visiting your web site.
B. You can call Vanguard admissions office at (254) 772-8111, and we are happy to tell you about our school and answer your questions.
C. If you would like to visit our campus, stop by or call the Admissions Office to set up an appointment.
D. You can also download, fill-out and mail us an online application form which can be downloaded here.
2. What are the steps to be admitted?
A. Complete the Vanguard application for admission. This form is included in the Prospective Student Packet or can be downloaded here. Mail, fax or deliver it to the Admissions Office at Vanguard.
B. Ask your school to send a complete transcript and educational test results directly to Vanguard. Any independent test results are also requested.
C. Give the teacher recommendation form to one of your current teachers. Ask that teacher to complete and mail it to the Admissions Office as soon as possible. We highly recommend that you provide your teacher with a stamped envelope addressed to the Vanguard Admissions Office. (See address below.)
D. Send a writing sample to the Admissions Office. This can be an essay or research paper written for a class at school. Or it can be an original piece written on the form included in the application.
E. Take the Otis Lennon School Abilities standardized test. This will be coordinated with the Director of Advancement and can be scheduled during school or after school on week days.
F. Make an appointment for an official admissions interview. This may take place with either the Director of Advancement, the Head of School, or both. The applicant and at least one parent should attend the interview.
G. Shadow Day. Experience a day in the life of a Vanguard student by scheduling a shadow day for your student.
2. How many students are enrolled?
We have 151 students in grades 7-12 of our 2012-13 school year.
3. What is your student to teacher ratio?
We are bale to have an impressive 13:1 student to teacher ratio.
4. What is your average class size?
Our average class is 12 students per class. Some are larger and smaller in order to enhance the classroom atmosphere.
5. Do you offer sports?
Yes. We have non-selective athletics that boast 39 state team titles:
Boys: Football and Baseball, Soccer
Girls: Volleyball, Cheerleading, and Softball
Boys and Girls: Basketball, Cross Country and Track, Tennis, and Golf
