You are invited to join Vanguard and the Caldwell family as we watch three-time TAPPS 2A State golf champion and Vanguard senior, Carter Caldwell sign his “letter of intent” to attend Northwood University in Cedar Hill, Texas. The signing will take place at 9:40am on Wednesday May 2, 2012 in the Jawarski Administration building on the Vanguard campus. Let’s celebrate Carter’s accomplishments and send him off with the best of wishes.
On Wednesday evening, March 21st, the following students were inducted into the Vanguard Chapter of the National Honor Society: Lilia Adra, Mills Chenot, Alexandra Deaver, Macallan Goaley, Evan Paul, Dana Nguyen, Mykala Prado, Michelle Ramadan, Jennifer Reese, and Lauren Willis
The highlight of the ceremony was a presentation by Dr. Mona Choucair, a Baylor University Professor, who talked about the four cornerstones of the National Honor Society: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character.
During the school year, members of the National Honor Society offer tutoring to fellow students and participate in many community events. The community events include providing a rest stop for the Wild West Century bike ride in September and providing helpers for all the events sponsored by the Cameron Park Zoo, Including Kids Zoobilee, Zoo Boo, and the Great Zoo Stampede.

Last Saturday, February 11, 2012, members of the Vanguard Debate Team competed in the TAPPS Regional Debate Tournament hosted by Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Temple. In Lincoln-Douglas debate, Hannah Howard placed 3rd and Reece Thompson 5th, both qualifying for State. In Public Forum debate, we had three teams qualify for State, those being Garrett Faulkenberry & Elizabeth Powell with 2nd place, Reece Thompson & Hannah Howard with 3rd, and Parry Thompson & Breann Ware with 5th. Additional congratulations to Breann for winning top speaker in Public Forum. The debate team will soon compete in Center, Texas for National Qualifiers in the National Forensics League division this Thursday.
Vanguard College Preparatory School seniors Jonathan Dallas and Hannah Howard were named National Merit Finalists school official announced Wednesday, February 8th. Vanguard student’s SAT scores are consistently well above average as confirmed by the school’s history in the National Merit Scholarship program. Vanguard 2012 senior class has 20 students, a fraction of most senior classes in Central Texas; however, Vanguard produces more National Merit Finalists than schools five to 10 times its size. This announcement brings to 45 the number of National Merit Finalists Vanguard has produced since 1995.
