Don’t let that rain get you down!!!

Homecoming events are still scheduled as planned.

Come on out and join the Tailgate on campus from 4PM-6PM. Festivities will be moved to Gym 2 if the rain gets too bad. Bring your lawn chair!

At this time, the Homecoming game is set to start at 7:30. If it is raining the Homecoming Ceremony will be moved on campus before the dance.

Last but not least…the Homecoming Dance, sponsored by the 9th grade class, is set to make a touchdown at 9:30-Midnight.

Scott Silver is a 2002 graduate of Vanguard College Preparatory School and went on to earn his Master’s degree in film editing from the prestigious American Film Institute. In 2008, Scott along with his partner Chady Eli Mattar founded Silvatar Media in Los Angeles. The team has produced two Hollywood thrillers, “Removal” and “Prototype” with a third that is currently in production in Morocco.

Scott initially found his passion through the encouragement of Vanguard IT director Joe Flowers who recognized Scott’s aptitude for telling a visual story. Taking Joe’s multimedia course allowed Scott to discover his skills on modern film editing software and the latest cameras.

“Prototype”, one of two thrillers produced by Silvatar Media.

“Joe just let me explore and allowed me to find my passion,” said Scott Silver, executive producer at Silvatar Media. “Through that initial experience, it has allowed me to do what I am doing now.”  I can not recommend Vanguard enough.”

Scott also credits Vanguard for preparing him to excel in college and making him a well rounded individual that is comfortable dealing with other cultures.

“At Vanguard, I learned how to take ownership of my own education and as a result, college was easy”, said Scott. “Vanguard made think outside my comfort zone and gave me an expansive worldview. I use these skills everyday whether I am on a conference call speaking to colleagues in London, Germany or wherever. I cannot recommend a Vanguard education enough.”

Summary of 2012 Homecoming Happenings

Our first annual Vanguard Homecoming weekend will be Sept 28-29, 2012.  A pep rally on Friday afternoon kicks-off our Homecoming festivities.  Saturday, September 29th at 4:00p.m. will be a tailgate party on the school grounds.  Our athletic booster, the Viking Crew, will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs.  Thanks to the parents who are bringing yummy side dishes.

In addition to food at the tailgate party, we’ll have music and games.  The football team, cheerleaders  and coaches will make an appearance before they depart for the Parkview Christian Academy field to warm-up for the big game, which begins at 7:00 p.m.  Around 6:15, all tailgate party-goers will head to Parkview to watch the Vikings take on the Bell County ECHO.

At half time, all Vanguard seniors and their parents will be recognized on the 50 yard line of the field. A Vanguard Homecoming Queen will be announced as well as Homecoming Princesses from each class.

After the game will be the second school dance of the school year, which will wrap up Vanguard Homecoming 2012.

Our annual Founder’s Weekend each spring will continue, which brings back to campus Vanguard alumni.  So Proud To Be A Viking!

It’s difficult to imagine Vanguard without computers, the audio/visual equipment that record lectures, PowerSchool and our top-notch science labs.  Thanks to the Vanguard Parent Organization (VPO), we don’t have to, because VPO generously provides many of these resources plus much, much more for Vanguard.

The VPO is made up of faculty, staff and parents of current Vanguard students.  It operates in cooperation with the school to:

1.  Enrich our academics such as the technology mentioned above, as well as extracurricular programs such as our athletic booster organization, the Viking Crew.

2. Provide support to the faculty, staff, students and parents such as our food and/or decorations for the Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheons, your time for Teacher Holiday Shopping Days, tokens of appreciation for Secret Pals, and care, concern and friendships for our New Family/Student Mentor program.

In the fall we ask Vanguard families to participate in the VPO’s brisket/turkey sale by selling to your friends and family and purchasing for yourself.  In the spring, we ask the same for our Flower Sale.

Our 2012-13 VPO President is Beth Boehm.  Beth would be delighted to tell you more about VPO volunteer opportunities.  Call the school office to get in touch with her.
