Ben Lacy – Class of 1994
Vice President of Commercial Lending – Community Bank – Waco, Texas
Class of 1994 alumnus Ben Lacy upholds the Vanguard tradition of attending world-class universities and working at organizations of high repute. Lacy attended Washington & Lee University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. He then continued his studies at the Southern Methodist University School of Law where he earned his law degree.
Shortly after graduating, Lacy began his professional career working at Ernst & Young as a tax consultant working with both start-ups and established companies on executive compensation stock option planning.
He moved back to Waco in 2002 and began working for Sheehy, Lovelace and Mayfield concentrating on corporate law, estate planning, real estate and taxation. After more than four years at the firm, Lacy moved to Community Bank & Trust where he is currently vice president of commercial lending, making commercial loans for real estate, business operations and equipment.
Lacy and his wife Noell have three children: Maddie (15), a sophmore at Vanguard, Morgan (12) and Cooper (10) who are both at Waco Montessori. When asked how it feels to be an alumnus with a daughter at Vanguard, Lacy said, “It’s gratifying to see her doing so well at my alma mater. She’s doing better than I ever did. I don’t know that I could hack it in the current academic environment!”
Lacy is most thankful that Vanguard “gave me a good work ethic and an understanding of the basics of all the major subjects I encountered in college and beyond.” His favorite Vanguard memory was his senior trip to Padre Island when his entire senior class (40 students) travelled to Padre Island for a week.
Lacy’s advice for current students: “Try to keep your minds and options open. Vanguard prepares you really well, but the world beyond is bigger than you think. Don’t assume you can make all your life decisions as a senior in high school.”
