The Edd Burleson Leadership Award is the most prestigious coaching award in TAPPS, and the description reads:
Mr. Edd Burleson served as the Executive Director of TAPPS for over twenty years. His tenure saw TAPPS grow from 100 schools to over 230. Mr. Burleson oversaw the growth of the organization and many of the coaches serving our member schools. This award honors Mr. Burleson and is presented annually to the male and female coaches of the year who have been nominated by TAPPS member schools and selected by TAPPS leadership.
Bill Borg, Head of School, “I couldn’t be happier for Will Curtis for being named TAPPS 4A Male Coach of the Year. His leadership of the Vanguard Athletics program and helping us transition to 4A have been outstanding. The quote by John Wooden comes to mind when I think about Will Curtis, ‘A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life.’ If you think of all the things that describe a coach, Will is the consummate Coach.”
For the past 19 years, Coach Curtis has done an outstanding job as a coach and Athletic Director. He has led the Athletics program to countless awards and championships, earning his 2nd Burleson Leadership Award in 2014. This year, Will Curtis led Vanguard School not only with moving up to 4A but also in coordinating and managing the Athletic Dept. overseeing 26 teams this year. With expanding our middle school, as we add 6th grade in 2023, Will Curtis will move into the role of Middle School Athletic Director and will continue as Assistant Head of School – External Affairs with the school.
