The April Alumni Connection
COLTON TREADWELL
College/Post Grad Info
After graduating from Vanguard in 2012, I attended Sewanee: The University of the South. I double majored in Psychology and Art at Sewanee and graduated with my Bachelor of Arts cum laude in May 2016.
In the summer of 2014 (the summer after my sophomore year in college) I was selected for an internship at the Yale Child Study Center at Yale University. I conducted research collaborating between Yale and Cogstate, a cognitive science company. The research concerned cognitive measures used for children, and the application of those measures in the area of concussion testing. My work resulted in the presentation of an academic poster at the Yale Child Study Center.
Information on your Career and Career goals
After graduating, I moved to Austin, Texas and started working at a residential treatment center for children as a Therapeutic Childcare Specialist. This semester, I began work on a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at The Seminary of the Southwest.
Family
My brother, Caleb, is a Vanguard ‘11 Alumnus. My sister Caroline attended Vanguard until last year when my family moved to Austin so that my dad could be the Rector at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Austin. He was the Head Priest at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Waco for many years. I am happy to be living in the same town as my parents and my sister. It is nice to be close to family again after being in Tennessee for my undergraduate studies.
Hobbies
My current hobbies include buying coffee so that I can stay awake for overnight shifts at my job. I also love going to the movies, and would highly recommend the Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin!
Favorite memory or teacher while at Vanguard
Some of my favorite memories at Vanguard were from the debate trips that I went on during high school. There is not a bonding experience quite like loading into a bus with piles of papers and legal pads with your friends at 5:00 AM on a Saturday. I learned so much in the debate program at Vanguard, and I made friends that I still keep up with today.
Advice for High school students at Vanguard
At Vanguard, you will be challenged academically. At times, your work may be overwhelming. It is important to remember that the work you are doing in high school will have a profound effect on how you manage your workload in college. Don’t forget that Vanguard is also a great place to make friends and have fun![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][mk_divider][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
