Vanguard College Preparatory School is pleased to announce the graduation of its first graduating Bright Scholarship recipient, Emma Lowe. Lowe earned the Bright Scholarship in 2016 as an incoming 7th grader from Midway Middle School.
“I am very excited for this next phase of my life,” Lowe said, “and I feel prepared from my last six years at Vanguard.”
The Bright Scholarship is a full free tuition opportunity for students of full-time Baylor employees. Recipients are selected based on being a well-rounded student who will take advantage of all that Vanguard has to offer. The recipient will uphold Vanguard’s values, including a sense of community, physical vigor, passion for learning and willingness to try new things. Vanguard’s core values are rigor, respect, responsibility.
Lowe will be majoring in wildlife and fisheries sciences at Texas A&M this fall. While she does not know her exact career path yet, she hopes to do something related to conservation of the environment. “I have a deep passion for animals and the protection of their habitats, fostered by both Vanguard’s environmental science class and my volunteer work at Cameron Park Zoo,” Lowe said. “I hope I can continue to educate others and develop new ways to protect the environment.”
Choosing to attend Vanguard is one of the best decisions of her life, Lowe said. “The school is rigorous, engaging and unique,” she said. “The atmosphere is comfortable and inviting to anybody. I found myself eager to ask questions and to get help from my teachers. I made long-lasting friendships, and the small close-knit community of the school is truly special.”
“I appreciate all of the faculty and staff, as it is truly a blessing to attend such a wonderful school,” Lowe said. “I know that I am prepared for whatever may come my way in the future.”
The 2021-22 Baylor Bright Scholarship recipients are Cynthia and Ellen Weaver of Lake Air Montessori Magnet School. They are the daughters of William and Katherine Weaver. William is an associate professor of literature in the Honors College at Baylor University. Katherine is a fifth grade teacher at Hillcrest PDS.
