The Vanguard High School Tennis Team opened the year against 5A Corsicana High School at Corsicana High School tennis courts. The Vikings went 1-3 in doubles, with Karch Knoll and Ethan Marsh winning 8-4 over the Tigers. In singles, Karch Knoll dominated at the #1 spot with a 6-0, 6-0 win. James Merchant’s match came down to the wire with hard-fought,11-13 point loss in the second set tie-breaker. Ethan Marsh and Evan Cole both lost in close matches 5-7 in second sets. The overall score was 2 – 10. Grace Yoon, Courtney Wiethorn, and McKenna Lowrey scrimmaged the Tigers on the girls’ side, competing with the formidable varsity team. Aldo Ibarra and McKenna made their high school tennis debuts with competitive matches. Overall it was a great fight from the Vikings and a good start to the year. The High School Tennis Team competes again next Monday, September 9 against Temple at Temple High School.
