The High School Tennis Team defeated Mexia High School Varsity, a UIL 4A team, on the MCC courts Tuesday afternoon. In doubles, the Vikings lost only one match. Doubles’ wins were scored by Hyrum Blackwelder and Aldo Ibarra, Seth Blackwelder and Carter Oates, Samuel Mach and Landon Hanshew, Sarah Emerson and Grace Yoon, McKenna Lowrey and Avery Haynes, Evan Roos and Kaitlyn Peavy, and Cooper Lacy and Bella Male’ who had the longest fought match and won in a tiebreaker. In singles, wins were scored by Ethan Marsh, Hyrum, Seth, Carter, Samuel, Evan, Landon, Sarah, McKenna, Avery, Leang Chhay, and Bella Garzonie. Hyrum didn’t lose a game in singles. Bella Garzonie, Avery, Sarah, Seth, and Sarah and Grace (in doubles) only dropped one game in their matches. The overall score was 20-4. The next High School Tennis match is this Thursday, Oct 15th against Academy Varsity at MCC tennis courts. We invite Vanguard fans to come out and cheer on the Vikings in the last home Varsity match for the Fall. The Vikings head to the first-ever TAPPS State Team Tournament on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
