From the Head of School...

In the years I have served as the Head of School at Vanguard, I’ve come to realize that both students and their parents value the same things about Vanguard. Because we are a relatively small private school with around 260 students, we offer opportunities and an environment that cannot be found at other schools in central Texas. The first is a challenging and stimulating educational experience, made possible by a teacher-student ratio of 1:13 with the average class sizes under 18.

The second is a sense of support and mutual respect among our students. While some high schools too often seem to be divided by cliques and “in-crowds,” Vanguard fosters a remarkable sense of unity. One of our recent graduates said, “At Vanguard, your class is like your family, you get to know everyone so well.” I think that sums it up pretty well.

Finally, Vanguard students are encouraged to explore their interests. Vanguard alum Scott Silver '02  is one of many examples where Vanguard's opportunity and environment shaped his career.  Also, at many large schools, a position on the varsity team or popular school activity is reserved for elite performers. This is not the case at Vanguard.  Our students whose passion sometimes exceeds their skill level can still become full, active participants.

One of the best ways to understand what makes Vanguard  special is to visit our campus. I look forward to welcoming you to our school as we continue the tradition of excellence that distinguishes Vanguard – and as, together, we envision the path for the future.

Sincerely,

Bill Borg
