Meet our College Counselor – Hannah VanDyke

Hannah is from Waco, TX and is a graduate of Midway High School and Baylor University.  She has served as both an Undergraduate Admissions Counselor and Graduate Business Programs Admissions Counselor at Baylor University.  Mrs. Van Dyke and her husband, Ross, have two beautiful children and love calling Waco home.  Ross VanDyke oversees Wiethorn Visitor Center at Baylor University.  Hannah has worked with thousands of families with the college admissions process. Her expertise will allow Vanguard students to have a direct, superior resource for college planning at every grade level of the school.

Hannah is at the forefront of the “Viking College Command Center” on campus that will offer students the tools needed for college research, planning, and admissions.

College Prep is a required course that hones each student’s skills for taking college entrance exams such as the SAT and ACT.  Members of Vanguard’s English and Math departments team-teach the course with Mrs. VanDyke.  Students learn about essay writing, resumes, interviewing skills, college applications, scholarships, financial aid and life after high school.

She is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling, the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling, the American School Counselor Association and the Heart of Texas Counseling Association.

She makes frequent visits to college campuses around the nation and attends state and national conferences to network with college admissions personnel.

Admissions representatives from colleges and universities come to Vanguard regularly for information sessions with all juniors and seniors.

 

 


 

Vanguard has produced 45 National Merit Semifinalists in the past 17 years. Forty of them were selected as National Merit Finalists.

One-hundred percent of Vanguard graduates attend a college or university, many of which are highly selective institutions such as Rice University, Stanford, New York University, Princeton University, the University of Chicago, Georgetown University, Davidson College, Duke University, and the United States Naval Academy.

The 34 members of the Class of 2015 received more than $4.8 million in academic scholarship offers to colleges and universities around the nation.
