The High School Tennis Team played Whitney Junior Varsity in Whitney on Monday. On a perfect night for tennis, the Vikings started off strong in doubles winning all four spots with wins by Landon Hanshew and Keeton Mathews, Cooper Lacy, and Taniya Degrate in mixed doubles, Avery Haynes and Kaitlyn Peavy, and Leang Chhay and Bella Garzonie. Avery and Kaitlyn didn’t lose a game in their doubles match. In singles, wins were scored by Landon Hanshew, Keeton Matthews, Avery Haynes, and Taniya Degrate, who won in a tiebreaker in the last match on, in her debut high school singles match. The overall score was 8-4. The next High School Tennis match is this Thursday against Whitney High School Varsity in Whitney
The High School Tennis Team played Groesbeck High School in Groesbeck on Saturday. A number of Vikings stepped up into higher spots in the lineup and faced challenging opponents. Wins were scored in doubles by Hyrum Blackwelder and Aldo Ibarra, and Seth Blackwelder and Carter Oates; and in mixed doubles Courtney Wiethorn and Hyrum Blackwelder and Landon Hanshew and Isabella Male’. Two other doubles’ matches went to super tie-breakers and the doubles team of Grace Yoon and Sarah Emerson had a competitive match at the top girls’ spot against a highly rated Groesbeck team. In singles, wins were scored by Hyrum Blackwelder, Anthony Foti, Aldo Ibarra, Seth Blackwelder, and Carter Oates. The overall score for Varsity was 7-12.
